Animals of the Week #6

This week's Animals of the Week is.....
       The Platypus!

The Platypus is one of nature's most extraordinary animals. Many believe that they are a mix of a duck (bill, webbed feet) and a beaver (tail, body, fur) A male platypus is venomous. They have stingers on the heel of their back feet. These Australian mammals are bottom feeders. They eat insects, shellfish, larvae, and bits of gravel and mud on the bottom of lakes. Platypuses do not have teeth so the gravel helps them "chew" their food.

Those were just a few facts about Platypuses! Please enjoy some pictures below!

Animal of the Week #5

The Lemur

This week's Animal of the Week is. . . .
             The Lemur!

You guys might be familiar with Lemurs from the     2005 movie 'Madagascar.'

But now I'm going to tell you what lemurs really do
The Lemur is the smallest of all primates and not many people realize that they belong to the primate family. There are many different kind of lemurs and they can be so many different sizes and colors. They use their tail for balance and believe it or not they don't use it for hanging on trees like other animals do. They have thin fur due to the warm climates that they live in.  Lemurs eat fruit and nuts that they find in the trees, and they also may eat some small insects.
Fun Fact: Early evolution proves that Lemurs used to be as big as an adult male gorilla (preeettyy bigg!!)

These were just a few facts about the Lemur. They are very interesting and unique animals. Please enjoy some pictures below!
